Sleep Apnea

What Is Sleep Apnea?

Picture your sleep as a peaceful, cozy journey through the night. Typically, when you slumber, your body and mind rest and regenerate. However, for those affected by sleep apnea, this serene journey can turn into a turbulent ride.

Sleep apnea occurs when you experience pauses or interruptions in your breathing while asleep. These pauses can range from a few seconds to several minutes and can happen multiple times throughout the night. You may wonder, “What causes this?”

During sleep, your muscles, including those in your throat and airway, naturally relax. But for some individuals, these muscles relax excessively, leading to partial or complete blockage of the airway. When this happens, the oxygen levels in your body can drop, resulting in brief awakenings or micro-awakenings that disrupt your sleep cycle.
